Spent many hours in the summer time from 1984 to 1989 as a volunteer to mentally handicapped children. Assisting them in finding part-time summer work experience and other activities. Language and Cultural Experiences
I am a native English Speaker. I’ve lived in Canada most of my life. I’ve traveled some of Europe and spent three months living in the Philippines helping a family renovate their home after the father had passed away. I have had lots of travel time in Europe and North America, including places such as England, France, Belgium, Nedarlands, Greece, Italy, Mexico and the U.S.A. To me, traveling and experiencing different world cultures is a great way to spend my time and money.

About Myself
I was born in Toronto and grew up between Toronto and Calgary with my family. I have an older brother who is now working in a sound recording studio in VancouverCanada. I have spent most of my life working in the Real Estate field, something that can be very exciting, but stressful at the same time. I have always loved traveling and meeting people from different parts of the world. Music is my main hobby, and I have worked as a DJ for over 14 years.

Why I came to China.
I have always held a fascination with Asian Cultures, and China particularly, since I was very young. For me, the opportunity to live and work here is a dream come true. I enjoy communication, especially that with new people and different cultures and points of view. This is what makes Shanghai such a special place, as it seems to be a gathering point for all aspects of the different Chinese ethnic groups and cultures. Shanghai has had such a positive impact on me, that I plan to stay here for a very long time, if not forever. Thanks to the friendliness of the people, and the atmosphere of this emerging city. There’s always something exciting happening here!

Why I chose to work at Kai En?
Kai En bases their teaching and learning methodology around “Real Talk” Meaning that we teach a very realistic and practical way of communication in English, through the spoken word, in the way that native speakers actually use the language. I found the philosophy of the open classrooms and the emphasis on letting the students speak to be quite intriguing. And after experiencing it for several months now I am very happy to have chosen Kai En as the institute where I can teach. I hope to stay on with Kai En for several years.
