Teaching Experience:
I began teaching English with one year in Qingdao, Shandong at EF, English First gaining experience with both children and adults, in general English and in a highly successful Corporate Language Training program. After teaching international students in England I went on to The Language School of Bilbao in Bizkaia, northern Spain. There I taught for a year; pre FCE to Proficiency, including a popular conversation class for groups of adults of my own devising.

Language and Cultural Experiences
China was the first country I traveled to in 1988 and since then I have taken every opportunity to see the world and went to more than twenty countries before settling in London. In the process I have learnt to get by in several languages, although it is my second language, French, and Spanish that I speak best.

About Myself
I was born and raised in the Hampshire countryside in southern England where most of my family still live and perhaps as a result, still find walking the best way to relax. My hobbies are Philosophy and the sciences of the very big and the very small; cosmology, microbiology and quantum physics. That and the occasional Qingdao Beer.

Why I came to China
I now have enough experience to begin studying for a Diploma in TESOL and decided that Spain was not such a good choice as China. The schools are more professionally run here, and the hours are better suited to additional study. My partner is also a teacher so Shanghai was a good choice since it has good opportunities for both of us. So! All of that plus… The food.
