Language and Cultural Experiences
I can speak elementary Chinese and elementary French. I’ve traveled throughout North America (Canada, US and Mexico); the Caribbean (Bahamas, Cuba); Columbia; China; Egypt; Western Europe and Russia. I lived in London, England for about four months in 1997 and studied and lived in Hong Kong for six months in 2002.

About Myself
I was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. My parents are both teachers. I have an older sister, who is a consultant in the tourism industry, and a younger brother who is a computer-networking specialist. My hobbies are playing sports, reading and writing. I enjoy all sports, but particularly basketball and American football. I listen to rock music - my favorite bands are U2, The Doors, and the Tragically Hip, a Canadian band. I moved to Vancouver to attend law school and worked in a law firm there. It's a beautiful city, close to the mountains and beside the sea.

Why I came to China.
I decided to come to China after living in Hong Kong and traveling throughout China two years ago. The people are friendly and open and the culture of China is very different and interesting to me. China is a land of opportunity, there is a lot of excitement here, and I want to be a part of it. In addition, it is the perfect place to pursue a teaching career. The demand for English training is high, and the students are motivated. Teaching in Canada can be much more stressful, since students seldom have goals or motivation to study.

Why I chose to work at Kai En?
I joined Kai En as a full-time teacher in 2003 after spending a period working part-time. I chose Kai En because of the professionalism of its staff and the training available for developing better teaching skills. Other schools seemed less organized and inefficient when compared with Kai En. In Kai En I found a more stable, dependable workplace where I felt comfortable teaching. I enjoy teaching in Shanghai because the students here are focused on learning English and interested in the culture of English speaking countries.
