Language and Cultural Experiences
I am a native English speaker and I can speak low intermediate Chinese (Mandarin). I have lived in UK and spent most of my time working as a hairdresser for a few of the London’s top salons before entering into teaching English. Studying some forms of teaching English and tutoring students, lead me to move to China. Over the past 12 years, I have traveled the world to many countries and fascinating cities.

About Myself
I was born in Cairns (Australia) to an American father from Seaward, Alaska and an Australian mother. I spent most of my young years in Brisbane which is a port city. So growing up was interesting for me, as I got to learn about two different cultures from my parents. I am also the oldest of six (6) children so the family is huge. I enjoy learning new things about life and as I have been in China for nearly 3yrs now, learning Chinese is a great asset to me. I also have a keen interest in playing and studying the Erhu. My great passion is photography and writing.

Why I came to China.
After learning very little about China at school, I wanted to visit and find out what the real China was about through my eyes and experiences. Also from tutoring students in London, this gave me greater insight and a craving to learn about life in China while developing my own understanding of China and the lifestyle. After arriving in China, I found my partner and have enjoyed living here and know that China is my new homeland.

Why I chose to work at Kai En?
After searching the Internet and viewing the website, I was very much interested in the running and the advantages of growing as a teacher in this exciting field of English Language Teaching. I also did some investigating and found that Kai En had a great reputation within Shanghai and was impressed by how the student is the focus of the school while giving them the best in English understanding as possible. I am very happy to be teaching at Kai En and sharing my knowledge of English teaching with everyone in the classroom.
