Teaching experience:
Prior to training at Kai En, I was a corporate trainer for over 3 and a half years at Mesaba Airlines. Our parent company was North-West Airlines and I was based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. My responsibilities included writing curriculum for both newly hired flight attendants and conducting continuing education for senior flight attendants. Topics trained included Service, Emergency Procedures, Security, First Aid and CPR, and basic aviation knowledge.
Language and Cultural Experiences
My family has always supported the philosophy to receive a good education, live frugally and travel well. At age 7, a visiting Chinese scholar stayed with my family for over 1 and a half years. During this time I learned a lot about Chinese cuisine, culture and language. Since this time, China has always fascinated me and I’ve known that I wanted to spend time here since this cultural experience. As I grew older I became very interested in Asian Art, specifically Chinese Landscape paintings. Now living here in China I am able to indulge my passion in Asian Art and immersing myself in Chinese culture.
About Myself
I grew up in the suburbs of the capital city of Minnesota called St. Paul. It was a fun childhood as we took many family vacations but I had no brothers or sisters to enjoy it with. This is probably the reason why I enjoy reading so much and I feel like a very independent person. On the weekends for many years, you could find me in a horse barn taking care of our Arabian horses and going horseback riding. After university started, we sold our animals as time to take care of them was much more limited. Besides enjoying horseback riding I like to cross country ski, snowboard and go camping.
Why I came to China.
As I had grown up with a family who enjoys and respects Chinese Culture very much, it felt natural to want to spend time here. When I was 20 as part of an Arts Course, I spent two months in China – the cities included Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Kunming, Suzhou and Guilin. Of all these cities, Shanghai impressed me the most and I chose to look for employment here.
Why I chose to work at Kai En?
Working for a company that values people it hires and serves is a very important value to me. I’d previously worked for people that didn’t follow this principle and I was not proud to be where I was. Kai En has a reputation of valuing its employees and students and it is this core value that attracted me to apply at Kai En. The second thing that impressed me was that Brian called and talked to me directly. He wanted to handpick a staff that worked well together and supported students. He could have left this job to the HR Department but he cared about his company and the students so much that he undertook this task himself. This was the catalyst for me accepting the position and coming to work at Kai En.
